The Two Factor Authentication (2FA) allows users to add an additional level of security in order to access their Veem account.
How it works
When 2FA is enabled on the account, an additional code will be required to log in. A code will be sent, depending on the type of 2 FA chosen. There are 2 types of authentication offered namely:
- Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP): This is an app-based code to times out after 30 seconds. A new code is generated after every 30 seconds thus, users need to use the code generated to log in before it expires.
- SMS Text Messaging: This is an SMS-based authentication that sends a code straight to the phone number used for clients to use when logging in. This option is only available to clients located in US, CA, AU, NZ, IE, MT, ZA, IN, GB.
To set up and use 2FA:
Step 1: Log in to your Veem account.
Step 2: Select Settings.
Step 3: Then in settings under the Users tab, there'll be an option to Require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). Toggle the switch to activate.
Step 4: Next, please click on the blue 2FA Settings. This will redirect you to the Security tab, with the 2FA details. Right below the details, please click Secure my account.
From here, clients will be able to choose the type of two-factor authentication to associate with their account.
For Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) :
- Select TOTP from the options.
- Scan the barcode that shows up with your authenticator app. An authenticator app uses a secret key to create a unique code and log you in. It’s more secure than ordinary 2FA because it doesn’t use a message that someone could intercept. The suggested authenticator apps include:
- Google authenticator app
- LastPass authenticator
- Enter the code provided.
- Click Confirm.
For SMS Text Messaging:
- Select SMS from the options.
- Enter the mobile number you'd like to use for 2FA.
- Enter the code provided.
- Click Confirm.
Congratulations, the Two Factor Authentication setup process has been completed! This extra layer of security helps prevent potential intruders from gaining access to the account or stealing personal data or identity.
